Presumably this is what you are referring to...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Frans_Hals_002b.gif

In German (old Dutch?) "Hals" translates as "Neck" which is presumably where you would describe the pain felt on such consideration...

That's it all right, paul. Often called "The Jolly Toper". Horrible.

Perhaps Hals was a moralizing Puritan...

BTW I have a friend here in London with the surname Toper - doesn't touch a drop! Must ask him if he's seen it...

Oh, and I wouldn't complain about the fog, paul. We're expecting a foot of snow tomorrow night and a low of -2 F (-19 C) on Monday. We're on the same latitude as Rome. I think we should start charging you guys for use of the Gulf Stream; it doesn't do us any good.

Perhaps I should have used the word "haze"....

There was a left-wing bookshop in England from that period called" days of hope" which was better known as "haze of dope"

Good luck through the snow! Keep us posted...

Brrrrrr.......Baton down the hatches Aristo.
Look after yourself and your loved ones.
-8C is the coldest I've had to live with.
No snow, but some frosts.
All the best.

Well done aristo - great clue . Couldn't help but notice that the winner and runner-up voted for each others' clues so commiserations to paul .

Many thanks to Ros , Les and Steve for the votes .

Great job as host ginge , I liked your own effort , but things aren't going to plan down under are they ? Maybe KP should invest in a decent office manager then he might find that form he's been looking for .
