This is really tough.

I've solved about a third of the clues, but I don't have enough letters to guess the quotations, so have no idea how to treat the answers before entry.

Hint, anyone?

Same position I'm afraid. Can anyone help?

The answer that finally got me on track was 17 across - contains one of the more unusual letters . The 2 quotes have the same words but not in the same order.

I can't solve 17 though!

I've got 1, 14, 26, 30, 34 and 35 across and 1, 5, 9, 20, 29 and 31 down.

I need 1D, 29D and 31D from your list.

6A is action,15A is sallet, 18A is rouille, 36A is tenter and 37A is kerne (I think)

Demeter - 21D is spinose, 23D claret and 27D fisty. I have the word "beginning" in the quote but no more. Could one of the writers be A A Milne?
