Thanks, cloverjo.
I was thinking along those lines for 28, but 17 still has me puzzled. I needed TEDS to fit with 60, but have now decided to refill the grid for about the fifth time.
We are certainly getting some real treats this year.

Thanks unclued.
Of all the 'notes' I considered I managed to miss 'ut'.
I had a 'transport' in mind very early on, but it doesn't fit my current grid, hence yet another refill.

Unclued, yes you are right. Look at the central letters in the centre row.

TUTS goes two spaces right and then one up to 30
60 (Emoted) goes right, down, right, up, up.

cloverJo - not knowing much about the subject, is ***DLE a representation of the transport?

Unclued, you want the central 7 letters of the centre row. They give you three abbreviations for relevant words.

unclued,

Take the acronym for the relevant transport. The 9 letters in the middle of the middle row are a representation of what that acronym stands for.

Thanks cloverjo and demeter - the penny has finally dropped. This was a great puzzle - one of the best this year. It's kept me away from the housework for days!

a little help please,
after reading this thread am I correct in saying you count the A's in clue 35, B's in clue 36 etc, so A=1, B=0, if so there are no 4's (preamble says from 0 to 4) any help appreciated, as my brain is hurting.
