For what it's worth, in the circumstances, I had.

1 EYESTRAIN (EYES TRAIN)
2 EMERITI (I T(r)IREME backwards
3 SPRIG (SPRI(n)G)
4 I know that she apparently didn't say "cake" but "brioche", but I didn't get any further than that.

Thanks for this imagcq, Hope all gets better with you.
1) Surveys school for tiredness of pupils (9)- Eyestrain? Eyes – surveys, school – train gives “eyestrain” – tiredness of pupils.

2) Old professors run from one ancient ship returning (7) Emeriti? One- I + trireme (ancient ship) reversed without r for run, gives emeriti – old professors.

3) Season without the fifth piece of parsley (5)- Sprig? Spring – season, without fifth letter gives sprig – term for a piece of parsley. .

4) Angry worker taking insult at first in Antoinettes alternative to bread? (9) Croissant? “Cross ant” (angry worker) with I the first letter of insult gives French (Antionette’s) alternative to bread. .

This gives EN EI SG CT for which gives genetics?

Hi, guys. Just checking in. I see the first three, but the word that jumps out at me for 4 I can't parse after the first three letters. Guess I won't have enough time...

Identical to AB's solutions: had to change my thinking on # 4 completely --- for a long time I was stuck on Panettone (in vain of course)!
And sincere commiserations, imagcq: under those circumstances it's a miracle you were able to look in at all on our ponderings!

GENETICS is the final anagram,everybody parsed what they had correctly,and im sorry i could not be around earlier to answer your queries about No4 which if you had the correct information i feel you all would have got the answer. Cheers!

Mate it is getting ridiculous, Cant access the site,bombarded by adverts then some of my postings just dissappear or i go to post and i have lost connection and have to do it all again. Patience wearing thin!
