Hi imagcq
Should #1 be "school" rather than "schools"? Perhaps I'm missing something.

You are very welcome - thanks for your challenge. It will distract me from not being able to solve anyone's clues on Clue Chain!

Brief visit to see an old friend outside Cambridge. Excellent day in Cambridge, good walks with her dog in the countryside (the dog loves us visiting). Very pleasant.

Sorry again, Chris, that really was a bit unfair of me with the "saurus"!
And now for # 4 here: if it's what I suspect it is (but can't quite parse) then I have the anagram, too (but we're not allowed to compare here, are we?!).............

(btw for Chris: just received the Sidney Sussex annual manual --- ouch!!!--- and alone the picture on the cover , all Christmassy, gave me a fit of nostalgia. Must be getting foggy there now, though ----sour grapes.......)

Apologies for premature incursion but is the fourth answer definitely plural? Have reasonably sound parses and anagram if singular (9 letters) but not if plural.

ab: as there's no answer to your q. (yet), may I ask:
Are you referring to something edible from another European nation, and using as 1st 3 letters a word that does not correspond as synonym exactly to a certain word in the clue? I think I see what you mean. Would be nice to hear from the setter soon!

.............if so there seems to be no anagram of the 8 letters for the "final solution", assuming I've got the first 3 right, & I'm pretty sure.................

Exactly so. The parse is fairly solid, I think.
