Found it harder going this week. Never heard of 4d: his list of personal tragedies etc looks more impressive than his acting career. Do most people know him in the UK via The Simpsons or what?

Yes, slow going this week - but I have just finished, 16a being the last to fall. Darned if I see the parsing of 15a though - The answer is presumably an expression that's used of an experienced worker, the veteran, but who's the cockney and what's being carried?
