Brilliant! Ixion

Thanks to all who took part. Wonder where Tony is today?

Sorry to leave it soo late. I simply forgot.
Here is my working:-

1. fortune = pile + anag(turning) of “to sin” = siton = PILES IT ON = exaggerates (All in Chambers)
2. wind up = needle (Chambers Thes); traffic = exchange; trippers = drug users; NEEDLE EXCHANGE (for their safety)
3. beer = ale; display = post (a notice, say); drinking = swallowing; a(post)le = APOSTLE = proponent.
4. (cryptic) profit = a gain; repeatedly = AGAIN AND AGAIN (Chambers def)
5. (complex anag [reproducing]) of “seed + late +Mar + Apr” – “petals” = DEMERARA = Guyanese river.

Hope to see you all next week.

John

PS Any Britishisms Ari?

Hi jolan
I just wondered if, in th elast one, "produced" would have worked as well (if not better) than "reproduced"?

Ahem...i think old clever clogs, Tony, might have pointed out that this type of clue is called a subtractive anagram.
but really, who cares! all very good again.

Had a last look in before logging off.
Yes! Chrise. Perhaps "better". Ta!
Trevor. Ah yes! Must remember to use that def. It's better than my 'makey up'

Off to join 'she who must be obeyed' now.

Bless

Thanks for the challenge, Jolan. I've never heard needle used as a synonym for wind up; perhaps it is a Britishism.
Trevor: I used the term "subtractive anagram" on the forum (I'd never heard it; it just seemed to make sense) and was corrected; it's apparently called a complex anagram.
