Hi, Mondrian. One of the clues in the Wee Stinker this week was 'and minor painter'. Without you, I wouldn't have known the answer.

Many thanks.

Hi, Raymond. I tought I had found an escape today when I took my Micra for its first MOT, but the Olympics was on the television in the waiting area. Some of the staff came over to ooh and aah at the events.

Not only that, the car failed the test. I need brake pads and a wishbone. Not to worry, it is due to go away in September, when a nice shiny Nissan Note will fall out of the wrapping paper.

Best wishes for now.

Well Bonjour folks, and at last I am able to return to the joys of RT crossword following an influx of visitors - including 2 vegetarian children, who don't like vegetables, nor fish, nor.... my brain was totally taken up with how to feed them well in France - a land of carnivores! Now, I have found this week's puzzle difficult, but after 24 hours of a struggle I am left with 8 across, 18 down and 21 across. I am sure 8 across is easy, but can I 'get it'. Help much appreciated, as ever.

Magworth - thanks for the answers. I hadn`t managed to get the second one so that will fill a few blanks. I am usually not good at all at doing anagrams. Glad you enjoyed the opening ceremony and are continuing to enjoy the sports. Yes, I see Team GB is creeping up the medal table. Well done to everyone!

Pipesmoker - my namesake and I are pleased to have been assistance to your solving the Wee Stinker! The name has come up previously. I remember Nimrod mentioning this once before If he ever reads this, I hope he is well.
