Peter and Bunty, I've got REDEAR for 25d and CROSSED for 38 ac. I'm unhappy about quite a few though. Not enjoying it too much because of so much uncertainty.

It is. By my reckoning, you have to choose between L or R. Wordplay gives you L, definition ("turned over") gives you R.

I agree with you, cmk, that 25dn is either redear or redeal. If you go with redeal, it gives the final letter of April Fool. I prefer glossed/grossed for 38ac.

Your right, Peter. Turned over = grossed. Hadn't though of that - was assuming simply 'C' for constant, though 'G' is of course, too

If the letters are kept, how does 25dn square with the footnote?

a is apparently a legit abbreviation of are, in the sense of the metric land measure.
