Well done peterm but I understood that the answer had 6 letters. Dumbledore seems to me to have 10 letters.

What's going on?

... and well done again for FOREDATING. It seems to be correct but the solution to the clue is supposed to have 6 letters. FOREDATING has 10 letters.

Am I missing something?

I thought there might be some special instructions that will modify the answer, like you sometimes get with e.g. the Azed.

Apologies. I should have explained that some solutions have excess letters - per the preamble.

It is Enigmatic Variations in the Sunday Telegraph.

From your answers I suspect that DORE FORE are the themed words to be deducted before entry to the grid.

Thanks again both
