I think it has something to do with answerbank Brakendale.

That sounds logical, Tommy T. I might even buy a copy of The Sunday Telegraph to have a look (and that will be a first!)

EV 991
1ac Rod desired Brahms and Listz at sea (6)

5ac Ravishing place falling short of America (6)

Apologies for the incorrect spelling previously Brackendale. Above is the extract from the Answerbank for EV991.

There is a specialist thread over on Answerbank each week where they discuss the puzzle but DON'T give answers - rather like The Listener.

Thanks for that. I took a look at the Answerbank. It's not easy to know what's going on when you don't have the newspaper to refer to - I will try to give it a go next weekend.

Re 1 across mentioned above, it's DISORDERED (anagram of Rod desired).

Later in the quotation you will read 'RODE
off' which indicates that those letters must be removed before entry to the grid.

DISORDERED is therefore entered as DISRED.

Thanks for that Tony.

Any (broad) hints on the quote/author please?

I was not familiar with the quotation but the author is Canadian, which should narrow things down for you!

Hello Tony . Wonder whether you can help me with my last one to solve - 6 down "sweet Indian is clothed by Dutch" (5). Is it a C thats left out? Have searched the Big red book but found no connection anywhere
with the letters I have. Could this be the one from the OED. Explanation also please Thanks in advance.
