I'm beginning to worry that (7) is going to earn me more brickbats than bouquets...it had been clued rather tenuously to avoid its early solution(which would quickly lead to the others with reference to Chambers) - looking at it from right to left may assist.

Have got it - in spite of the clue to 7, not because of it!

7 is still foxing me, I'm afraid.

The clue for 7 didn't help me, but based on the preamble I just checked out the definitions for the answers to 1-6 and something (the answer!) came up.

The first part of 7 made sense - not sure of the second, but convinced my answer is correct!

Got to this a bit late. Got 1 - 6 readily enough, but not sure about wordplay for 4 - I seem to have an "i" or "y" unaccounted for.

Can't see 7 yet.

Peterm- I wasn't sure of the spelling for no 4, but decided it didn't matter (too much).As well as swithering about the 'i' or 'y', I felt there was maybe a surplus 'm'.

(4) is spelt with i rather than y peterm[not very well indicated in retrospect a/one/1(i)]...and (7) is rather tortuous - the ? after legend is certainly called for, it probably needs a ?! after knits also.
