I was trying to explain the meaning of the word bumflie/bumfly/bumphly to an English friend recently. This was quite difficult, as I was just able to say that my coat was bumflie (or any of the other possible spellings).

Can any of my fellow north of the borderers help me to translate this fine word into English, please?

Many thanks.

Mystified - does it mean something like comfy or well worn I found a text that mentioned a bumflie chair, but after reading it was still none the wiser.

I do hope you realise Pipesmoker, that you might get complaints that this isn't about crosswords. ;0) I wish someone would explain this word and put me out of my misery!

Thanks, Sally. Yes, I see from some other threads that I might upset someone for my non crossword babbles. However, this one is sort wordy based, so I hope they will forgive me. I suppose I could have presented it as a clue, but hat would have been difficult for me, as I am seeking a definition.

How are you, these days? I hope the pain levels are not too much to bear.

Best wishes.

Hiya Pipesmoker,
I found it spelt as Bumfle in the Urban Dictionary, I think this is the explanation you want as it mentions west Scotland. See Link Above

Not too bad Pipesmoker, some days are better than others, but the higher dose of painkillers means I sleep like the dormouse. Hope you are well.

Thanks, Les40 and Fex. This sums up the coat in question. It just doesn't hang properly.

Les, I am enjoying your crossword. Just about two thirds of the way through it, but reluctant to admit defeat.

Thanks again.
