I've started with Grid A, but have found only 4 answers which required additional letters. And like you, ixion, the added letters to just 2 of those will give the setter's name in its entirety. All very confusing.

ixion, seven grid entries contribute to the setter's name, five across (providing one letter each) and two down (providing 2 and 5 respectively)- none of these letters are given by wordplay and 2 are unchecked.

peterm - the across one you're missing may be 16, being the least obvious(to me anyway)

Thanks ixion. Will need to look again at Grid A answers a bit more carefully. Got through Grid C easily enough, but Grid B's is proving to be tricky.

4d you need a 3 letter word for enthusiast, then knock off the first letter, then put a n(new) star inside. Defn - not honoured
5d 4 letter word for drinkers with ti(middle of city upset) round it
Grid D
6d defn descent (not downwards) 5 letter bird, move one of its letters to the front and put "in" inside
5d PR (public relations - spin) + av + russian word for yes . Defn - you'll find it "here"
