22a President's 'Team Jack' elected to send a message alert (2,7). I have .. j.n...g. Any hints welcome

It's a name, a foreign one. The last four letters mean 'to send a message alert' -I was delighted to get that bit ('elected' was, of course easier!)

First letter is one you rarely see at the start of a word (think football team)!

Last 4 letters are the sound of a text arriving.

I'm sure it's "outdo". As in come first.. Is it open air plus mispelt ODD as in alternative?

You're right. It's 'outdoor' without 'or' (no alternative).

I'm finding "new" Cyclops rather easier to solve. "Old" might take me 'til the following Thursday and just one day before the entry date, or I might not manage at all. I'm finishing these days at a single sitting. There' s definitely a change in tone.
