18d, 2 letter acronym reversed (the sort of thing Paul would do) then a 4 letter word for cross.

18d - 2 letter acronym for "not a sausage" reversed/'over' the 4 letter "cross" (as in stern, say) - definition is "offer" (a bit loose, I think)

Sorry Neville, ignore my "stern" reference. I've been up all night doing this and the Listener and clearly it's taken its toll:-)

Bren, take another look at 18d. Cross is what you might do with a river. I think you may have the wrong word… unless I do!

Hi Dobby, with regards to 1d, I'm always gald to receive thanks, but I think, in this instance, they're due to Jono:-)

Just noted that while 6d is not in Chambers as a head word, he is given a detailed credit under the entry for his adjectival form.

The wording of the noun definition is curious:-

A remedy such as ????? prescribed, a vegetable simple

Do you think they mean 'a simple vegetable'?

One definition of “simple” is “A medicine having only one constituent”
