24a - I don't think so. The first word is "picture" and the second 1,2,2 with both twos being their respective symbols.

For some reason I got straight in via the Obs site without usual fannying about w/browsers VPNs etc. Has any other reader had a similar experience?

Clarkgwent, I had the same experience as you last week, but today I’m back to being blocked.

Seems pretty random. I went to the site, cleared cookies, refreshed page, cleared cookies, signed in, refreshed page, signed out, refreshed page, tried different browser, signed in, refreshed page, and then it worked.

Some weird clues this week. I'd probably be shouting the opposite at 20a.

Any clarification on 19d? I've got two words that fit, but neither seem to be defined, or contain any facial hair.

And of course immediately saw 19d as soon as I posted that. Doh.

Plutocrat, 19d parses as 1,1,5. The latter is an abbreviated, or slang word for some facial hair.
