I had to reset my log-in password for the second week in a row to gain access. The software does seem to be totally arbitrary.
The second definition of 4d is a new one to me; otherwise, much more straightforward than most Quiptics these days. Not sure whether the Observer is dumbing down or the Guardian has decided to start publishing what is essentially a prize puzzle with cheat codes.

FOI: 6a. LOI: 12d. A swift solve except for the last one. Haven’t even had a coffee yet! COD: 25a.

Complete apart from 5D. Looks like an easy get but..? I have the first letter and the last three letters, the usual for drink. I assume that the first two words is the answer. E????S/?P.

Hi all. I can also sometimes access the Xword without signing in or paying & other times can't, so thanks, Mattrom.

Found it mostly easy today but stuck on 20D: I can only see one second word. Also can't see 20A, 25A or 14D, despite crossers.

just seen 14D

... and 25A suddenly appeared. Very good.
But still stuck on 20A & can't parse 2nd word of 13D

14D is an anagram: N(orthern) gent in car.
