I'll accept the one at the bottom, 3 characters, but the other is supposed to be six characters, and the top line is already accounted for in the wordplay only clue.

There is nothing in the preamble to say that the wordplay only clue can't also be one of the thematic items to be highlighted. The preamble may be in error regarding the enumeration?

D'OH!! It;s there (6 letters), just not the type of compiler that the rest of the puzzle is referring to.

The second column is easy to interpret, but the first makes no sense to me. Is it 5,7 or 7,5 or neither of these? And is the thematic name the 3-letter entity, or are the two entities from the second column 3,6?

First column parses 7,5 (probably need to google it to get the real name of the person who appears in the grid).

Jockie, my name, from the first column is 5, 6 - and I liked adapting things to ge it.
