Thanks Ianwil. My point in a nutshell. I hadn't even spotted the anagram.

Got there. Spent too long with a different kind of 'vessels' in my head for last four letters of 2d. Which turned out to be a fine clue. Didn't know 11a but again a brilliant clue. Wasn't totally convinced by 1d.

Thanks Tramp for a very enjoyable, if a little fiendish at times, prize. FOI 12a. LOI 3d. COD probably 14a for the misdirected definition.

Chrise - at my school that 2 letter abbreviation covered “sport” in general. But that was 60 years ago!

All done except 3d. I can't parse 11a so it may be wrong (I don't think it is) thus causing my problem with 3d. Any nudges gratefully received, thanks.

When I was at school we made a very clear distinction between that and sport. Sport was fun (for most of us, al least).
