Tnx Jono for pacific and peaceful etc.

Is the pacific rim an increasingly prosperous region?

Maybe it was increasingly prosperous at the time of the original crossword? (I can't remember how old your puzzles are, sorry!)

The puzzle is from 2005. I recall Emerging markets generally were a focus for investment in the early naughties. Perhaps there was something more specific in the news when the puzzle came out.

Thanks, Jono. I thought the puzzles were old, but couldn't remember any details. The Pacific Rim places were, I believe, hugely prosperous at one point,so the clue seems fine.

(b)itchier?
Not a good clue if that's it - the deletion seems the wrong way round.
