What appeared impenetrable on first reading the preamble, it all fell into place steadily.

For me, the most enjoyable for a few months.

I fixed that light in the grid at 30a. If you refresh be sure to save your work first.

A very neat puzzle I thought. Some of the thematic references in the superfluous words were new to me and interesting to read up on.

yes, pleasant to see turnstone again after only 6 months - and, like the previous, featuring devious missing letters. I knew nothing about the theme so delighted to be made to gen up on it ...

I'm slightly anxious, though, about my submission for the unclued light - without giving too much away, it seems the start is a digit and the missing word (if I have it right) seems to be something previous to that.

I have finished this now, so I am only writing to query what I have submitted. I found eight superfluous words and a sensible three-word clue, but 2D was in addition to these. And I gave up trying to parse 20D!

2d contains one of the 8 extra words. 20d is a reverse hidden and yields an unclued letter.

I rarely spend much time on Genius puzzles (this is only the third I've completed iirc) because they're above my pay grade. The theme became visible about 2/3 of the way through and definitely speeded completion.

This Genius was shockingly tractable, but I greatly enjoyed it because the theme lines up with my background/interests.
