Brilliant, thanks Chris, thanks Jordan. In Barcelona I goit completely thrown by the B, thinking it 'must' be the billionaire, and I've never heard the word Macedoine before so was never going to figure that out.

Chris, as Jono and I were discussing bithdays earlier it came to mind that yours is the 15th Sept - is that right or is it a false memory?

As ever Maskarade is brilliant in construction and great fun. At the risk of sounding ungracious I do think that the clueing sometimes slips. 36 across would be better as 'My small letter or two' and can anyone parse 20 across? Thanks

20a is a double definition. Stand up as in ‘does it stand up (to scrutiny)’ or ‘does it wash’.

Thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and added to my knowledge, a perfect weekend .

I had loads of things to do today, but my back continues to give me gip, so I was forced to sit down (with my heated wheat bag behind me) and do the Maskarade today. I've enjoyed it, especially after I worked out the theme from solving one of the anagrams.

I haven't quite finished it, but am struggling now to read the small print in the newspaper. If all else fails I'll look at the solution printed on the same page, but upside down and in even smaller print. There were a couple of words I didn't know, but my husband had no trouble with 7d. I'm forever grateful to him for his musical knowledge - needless to say I have none.
