Thanks for that article Jono, it is really interesting. I think Paul is suggesting that it’s harder to find the definition, Jan, if it’s not at the start or end of the clue. I was trying to get a smoother surface (make it read better) by putting “stout” where I did, as “for starters” is quite clearly the indicator for using the first letters. But happy to tweak it if it makes the clue fairer? Normally we would only tweak our own clues though! You are right that stout is a wordplay as well, misdirection a little about beer as well as meaning broad.

So I guess after all that, tweak to #34 😁
