Stout means broad or wide. It is also a type of beer

Sorry this is a question not a statement as I think @paul says compromised. Does he mean that in the clues the definition has to come last?

It’s an interesting question. Certainly, it is most usual to find definitions at the beginning or end of clues but it is not a hard and fast ‘rule’ provided the clue remains fair.
