Like others, I was confounded for several days because of a conviction that the missing letters from 24d were I and D in either order. I’m also not persuaded that 1d makes much sense when you add the missing letter, but together with 20d it gives a big clue to what follows.

Just a big thank you. Was stuck and bored until I read your subtle suggestions. I still haven't got the 5th clue supplement so advice on that would be welcome. Some how 'e's law' looks improbable...

Improbable yet true. It goes between the T and the H, with a space added.
