I have an initially filled grid, the quotation and the chap, and I can see what (i) refers to … but the relocations are eluding me. The trouble with “symmetry” is that there are many ways of satisfying it. It would be useful to know what “the same distance” is, and whether it’s a straight line or something with bends, like a knight’s move.

Jockie - If you can find the 8 cells that need moving (translation of the quotation), they each move 2 cells diagonally away from the centre of the grid

I've moved the 8 letters appropriately but don't understand what to do for (i)
assume circles for (ii) ?

maybe colour the line passing through the blank cells yellow?

Kirky, I think it's what's contained INSIDE the (shorter) line that gets coloured appropriately - then you'll have an 'illustration' of sorts!

Hello there, Brendan - and get well soon! Dupuytren's contracture came up in conversation last week when I was out for lunch with some friends. One friend's husband had it and she was really struggling with the name. I'd read previous articles about it and could remember it quite well- but I apologised as I'd only seen it written, so couldn't guarantee my pronunciation.
