A nice change for those across the Atlantic to see a baseball reference instead of a cricketing one, which I had to Google as I know nothing about the sport but answer seemed clear from the wordplay.

Completed left-hand side of the grid but struggling on the right. Can anyone help with 7d? My crossers are _ _ L / _ U _O _ _

Not looking good for me if Jono is making slow progress!

7d is not a great clue in fact. Assuming I have it right because I don't yet have the crosser at 19a, think sick joke perhaps.

I struggled with 19a but when the PDM finally arrived I rather liked the clue. Very imaginative use of "jacket."

Mrcodger, dead right. Like many Paul puzzles, the difficulty is in the first half. Once you get established the second half goes in much better. A shout out to 29, 12 BTW. Another groan moment.

I agree it’s a bad clue. I put a wrong answer in as my FOI. This was gag reflex which is in my view a better answer than the correct answer

Come together rather neatly in the end. I thought the gimmick centred on the 24 and 28 clues was quite fun.

Still haven't got 24 yet Jono. My first thought got scuppered when I got 21d which took forever because I was looking for a definition that meant the rhyming slang. It isn't that for anyone doing the same. The SE corner has really held me up big time.
