Nice puzzle, but I was unable to find some of the answers which had to be replaced by their opposites. There are two possibilities for the 7th letter of 1d. I can't parse "frequently saving lean" in any way which makes it clear which letter is required here.

Helveticus, "frequently saving lean" is an abbreviation for 'frequently' (2) around 'lean', (which could also mean 'be in a horizontal position') (3)

Many thanks Mattrom! It would be nice if I could work out the not-to-be-entered answers to 12a, 31a, 4d and 25d, but this is not essential.

4d is only 4 letters
25d is 2 letter "concerning" inside the 6 letter government head count etc that takes place every ten years

Still musing over the across ones

An interesting idea but once a few crossing letters were in the grid it was all to easy to identify the antonym to enter without troubling with the wordplay of the affected clues.

My only missing antonym now is 31a. As Jack Aubrey says, it is not necessary to find it to finish the puzzle, but it would nevertheless be good to find it.

The “lie” in 2 is “Is.” covered by “RE”. You want a 4 letter antonym.
