Must be the heat but find it trickier than usual today. 10/11 across: old fart, one who pulls president's erection? (5,5). Hints please. Am I barking up the wrong tree with 'strapping' for 9 acr: strong and into S and M?

10/11. The first '5' is a childs word for 'fart' (I think the 'old' is superfluous or wrong) and the second 5 is simply 'one who pulls'. The president's erection isn't a bodily one...

You missed off the end of the clue, '....Anderson and making amends '. The answer, entry, fits the last two words. 'Wifeless' indicates losing a letter, and abbreviation, if you were describing Lee Anderson. Put it back into your entry to confirm....
