Brendan - the preamble says that you have to alter 6 across clues via a 'thematic change' before solving. Could this apply to 27a?

The preamble also says that 3 down clues are wordplay only. 25d? You have the first letter, clued by the first word in the clue. The 'jewish date' is an abbreviation, in the same way as 'BC' or 'AD' is for Christians.

23d is not an anagram, and has an extra letter in the wordplay. the definition is the last 2 words.

... and, of course, "dodgy lawyer" is a single word.

The light dawns:-)

A most enjoyable grid-fill, but I know nothing about the end-game, so I feel like throwing in the towel - unless some kind soul can point me in the direction of something that will enlighten me.

Other pointers, if you're not sure of the Across clues' word, are the last 4 letters of the Down clues' message and the appropriately witty title.

Really enjoyed the grid, and like a lot of Listeners, it also taught me something about a subject I had absolutely no previous knowledge of.

I’ve completed everything, but the row or column I ended up highlighting all adds up (pun intended) apart from it only has 75% of the constituents gleaned from the message in the down clues when I was expecting to need all of them. Is that right?

Yes, Adalja, that is correct, if a little surprising.

Thanks, Will.

Surprisingly as you say, but doesn’t detract from a first class puzzle from Deuce.

I don't know why, but I felt sure the name of a certain expert in the field from a North African country was going to appear one of the rows or columns:-)
