Puling my hair out this week!

7D: Respectful maid fiddled with chocolate starfish (8)

The only word that fits is ODDITIES but I just can't make it parse.

And 24D: Sick in bar when nut cut off (6)

I've convinced myself it's AILING (from railing) but don't know why R would be the nut cut off!

I think I've been staring at this too long.

In 24d, "nut" would be "head", thus first letter.

Monkeymonkey...can you give the letters that are definite (or even possible) for the answers to these two? Thanks.

7d could be SINGULAR = anag of (GIRL+ANUS)

I think the misdirection of "nut" in 24d is witty, though the clue is rather easy.
