This is driving me mad - in both senses. Any help with 17a or 15d would get me across the line. I don't understand the definition in 36a and fisherman in 24d is not supported by my BRB. I would be happy with 19a if it said "for instance" and not "for one".

Is 17a "her" + "o"?

Gitto, 15d is an obscure word. Definition is first two words of the clue, the wordplay is an anagram of 'barely' (reviewed) around a 3-letter word for soldier.

Gitto, I don’t understand 36ac definition either although the entry is obvious. I’m not sure about Abelard either, he wasn’t a hero except maybe to Heloise; suppose that must be it. Apart from those minor niggles I did enjoy this, cleverly constructed I thought.
