Thanks so much once again. Very timely for a bright Saturday evening in Montreal.

Thanks, Jono. Lots of puns in this one.
The interpretation of '99' in 17a. has become so common, it's almost as if it has been accepted.

Thanks Jono.
All done except 11a. I’m assuming that it’s an anagram but the solution is eluding me. Maybe it’s a partial anagram? Thanks in advance…

Nicoladawn, 11a is an anagram, leading to an obsolete word for "fellow directing" ( a vessel)

Hi Nicola Dawn. It's an anagram - are you certain of your crossers?

Got it. Thanks Mattrom for the helpful hint and Sealionsteve; you were right; i had the last letter of 5d incorrect.
I enjoyed 5a and 14a today in today’s puzzle, which was on the easy side ( save for 11a !).

Hi all. Well I’ve also enjoyed it, especially the Spoonerism (eventually!) but didn’t find it easy.
Still stuck on 18D & can’t parse the answer to 23A
Thanks, Everyman

Nicoladawn I can see why you might have got 5dn wrong - I reckon the incorrect answer fits better! BarryC, I also have 23 and 18dn marked as "not sure why", although I can sort of see how 18dn works. I don't know how widespread the answer is but in my youth it meant "me".
