I enjoyed the crossword but, oh boy, the online software is rubbish. I spent ages agonising over 3d only to realise that the software had changed both the first and third letters of 1a, giving me an ‘R’ as the first letter of 3d. I’ve got ‘skip filled squares’ set off in settings but found three other places where it had changed letters that I’d entered. Presumably, as I type an answer in, it suddenly jumps to another solution (for whatever reason) and puts the last few letters there? It doesn’t happen in the Guardian!

The software/platform/app really is crap. There are too many problems for me to list.

More importantly, enjoyed this, loved the Spoonerism, 14d was very neat, (Yes the 'primarily' was helpful!). 14d my CoD.

Cannot quite parse 5a.

For those stuck on 23a. Receding is those whose hair is going ???? with a letter for temperature and one for lecturer I think. One of a pair in a fairy tale.

I took 23a. as a word for "hail" with the last letter moving sideways (receding) + a 1-letter abbreviation.
"landing" seems to be just there for the surface.

I think 5a is simply a cryptic clue whereby the final word of the clue start the solution word. Maybe wrong.

I don't like the way the online version immediately "submits" the grid as the last word is entered. I'd got a typo or two in there and would like to check stuff before it goes in!
