Echo that Porthwick. Although like Lumen I have been gazing at the viewfinder in all its completed majesty without finding the elusive theme word (words?) for an eternity 👍

Took me a while to “see” it too.

Enjoyed this one a lot and very satisfying to complete the instructions and see the theme.

Only issue I have is I don't understand 8 down - I have crossing letters in the first 3 cells which seem to be fine and then a final letter suggested strongly by the wordplay in the clue. But I can't make sense of what this makes or how it relates to what I presume is the definition (first 2 words of clue?)

mafu, yes the definition is the first two words. New to me too.

Yes the definition is the last 2 words mafu, given as an alternative, spelling of the second entry for a shorter word in Chambers.

I'm still looking for the 7 cell theme. I have an idea, but still can't find it.

I have a full grid, 16 “doubles” and the instructions. Quite a struggle to get there but a “fair fecht”, so all credit to Luxor. I’ll now take a break and return to the endgame refreshed in the morn’s morn.

I have to admit I've failed to understand the second part of the instruction. Os? Neighbour? Anything I do results in a mess rather than a "beautiful realisation of the theme".
