My app is still showing as 6.14 and last updated on the 28th November 2025, but he did say it rolls out slowly so I'll keep checking periodically.

I’m sorry to be thick but I use the Chambers app (dictionary and thesaurus) on my iPhone 16. I haven’t noticed any difference in the search but I can’t seem to see what version I’m on. I’ve been to the App Store to see if I can redownload it but when I click on it, it just opens the one that’s already installed. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks. (A career in IT but this modern stuff is beyond me!)

Simon, I also struggled to find it on the iPhone -- it's hidden under the 'share' menu (the square-with-up-arrow icon in the middle of the bottom navigation). If you have got the latest version then the fifth item down will be "Full text search".

If you go to Settings < General < Iphone storage and then scroll down to the app it should show you there. Isn't very obvious...

It’s not obvious. On an iPhone 16, if you click on Search, type in the word “anorak”, you should see “anorak” and “anoraks” appear. Click on “anorak”.

At the bottom of the screen, the middle icon is a hollow box with an arrow pointing upwards. Click that, and it should show the fifth option as “Full text search”. Click that, and in the search box at the top type “anorak”.

Then click “Search” and it should run through 52121 definitions and find 3 matches, including “cagoule” and “wind”.

If that doesn’t happen I would suggest deleting and reinstalling the app.

Thanks both! I now know what version I’m on (I’d never have thought to look there!) and have the ‘full text search’ (ditto). I’m sure my granddaughter would have found them! 🤣

On an iPad the change is rather more evident. We have a new 7 widget menu bar at the top right of the window with “full text search” given a dedicated icon (the last one).
