A personal favourite is Listener 4395, entitled 6 Across by Shackleton, which had amazing depth of thematic content.

Back to Aedites's actual crossword - can someone please explain the parsing of 3dn - I have completed the crossword, highlighted the name and drawn the curve - but I cant' resolve 3dn's last letter - it can only be one of two letters but .......?

As I remember, it's the last letter needed for the author's name?

Sorry, I mean it's one the six letters needed for the author's surname.

It's the fourth letter which is missing from the wordplay (all six missing letters are checked).

The clue is &lit, except for the last word.

In pieces is an anagrind, telling you to anagrammize the effectively 5 letters you have before that. 4th letter extra.
