All done. A pleasant, mid-range in terms of difficulty, solve. Neat grid in the end though.

Agreed. I was amused, though, that we "must" draw two connected red lines and two black circles. Please don't tell but I do the puzzle in pencil! It's amazing how much Tipp-Ex you can save that way.

Amazing how the named in full, and 11d, depict 1a.

I'm sorry, but I found this one a little disappointing! I think this was mainly due to Vismut often giving us great, clever, well-crafted puzzles - whereas I found this one just ... OK. Many of the the clues were very easy, the theme's been done before - and it's another of the 'blast from the past' puzzles. It was fine as far as it went - but for me, it just didn't go very far!

Will37: if you don't draw the red lines and the black circles, you haven't finished!
I found this fun, if not particularly taxing.

Well done Vismut. It's good to have a marginally simpler puzzler every now and then. It gives those who might not normally complete get a chance to do so. A very clever shape too.

Will 37, you still have tippex? I haven’t seen it in many years although I was a big fan back in the day.
I’m with Malone on this, it was okay but didn’t take long enough, lots of easy clues, not the usual IQ workout.

Yes, teenkieleek, I still have Tipp-Ex -- right by me, as it happens! It can be useful for puzzles which can't be entered electronically and require handwriting, such as The Listener and The Spectator.
I agree about this puzzle; it was enjoyable but hardly exacting.

I guessed the theme from the title and scanning the clues, with two thematic references that rather jumped out at me. This made it a rather breezier solve than usual. It’s quite unusual to encounter an IQ with no clue-level device shenanigans and only unclued entries to challenge the solver. I did wonder why Vismut didn’t add a twist like needing to change letters in cells as part of the endgame
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You will never encourage new people into tackling thematic crosswords unless you make the odd one simpler. For those that finished it quickly- well done and lucky you- more time for other activities or more complex puzzles if that is your wish
