I think. 7 letter word for sticking with a single letter for one word in the clue and two letters for the law enforcement officer.

Definition is last two words.

Nicoladawn, I agree that this was hard work, although I got stuck in different places to you. I have the two crossers for 1down, and assume I have the comedian right, but if anyone can tell me what the Carry On bit has to do with it, I might be the wiser. Is it what you might do with a war? I think it's good to have some variation in the difficulty level, so thanks Everyman.

Hi Bob, yes, ‘carry on’ is the definition (as in a war). Comedian is the first 3 letters, then 1 letter from the end of nurse.
