I'm seeing stars at this stage... :D ahem

All but the last unclued in the south west. Checkers dont make sense as the others did. Am I missing something?

Also as one living overlooking the Gare Loch it was thrilling to see our southerly three letter neighbour get a light of it's own!

N00b26, if it's 39 you're stuck on, one of the elements is longer (letter wise) than the other. The latter, very short, crops up in crosswords quite often.

No, I got 39... It's the second word in 13 that i mean. I see the 5 connected with 20 and the rest were clear also. Pretty sure on checkers so I'm wondering about alternative spelling or ??

If your checkers are just two vowels then the answer is in the Chambers Appendix already referenced, though there’s something fundamentally unsatisfying about finishing a puzzle by simply looking up a list and writing in the only entries which fit. Not very intellectually challenging!

Don't have paper version of Chambers.

Ok... There is ambiguity so because I worked it that the first word in 13 is connected to 20 and 17 is connected to 20. So I believed I had the 5 already! I will wait for the solution.

Figured it... Phew. Thanks all. Had the wrong first word in 13 which incidentally is connected to 20.
