22 not a recent PM! Starts with a conflict with the first letter missing, then E on the end

29 is a bit unfair - it's his first name

First, my apologies. I'm a newbie here and can't see how to add a new question without replying to an existing one. Neither Add Reply nor Add Thread seem to fit the bill. I'd appreciate it if someone could "clue" me in :-).

For 28A "Parliament: uproar not unfamiliar!" (8) I have the following crossings.

_T_R_O_T

I'm guessing I've cocked up one of the crossing clues, although my answers to both 19D & 24D make sense to me.

Thanks, in advance.

Ah! Thanks rafflesthegt.

Being from down under, it's often a stretch for me to grok some of the political references, so I'm unsurprised that I didn't get that one. Definitely not in my general knowledge, so I had no hope on my own.

Your hint, plus a bit of google-ing eventually got me there. Thanks again!

I think you're right about 23/25/27 as it's all across.

I have completed the crossword, and I am fairly confident about my answer for 16/10, but I can't fully parse the clue.

Dithering defector?
+ Fool pocketing a lot of money (I think misspelt word for vocation which pockets a lot of money)
= What the electorate needs

It's mostly the dithering defector part I don't get

Svev... I think the 'dithering' indicates the anagram of 'defector' (and other bits)...

It's an anagram of defector around an anagram of a fool with a g in the middle. I'm assuming g mean grand as in £1,000.
