Someone sent me a puzzle collection, one of which is called a 'square routes' puzzle. It consists of a 5x5 grid with a few cells coloured and other cells marked with asterisks and a set of words, which I presume are supposed to fill the grid somehow. But there are no instructions included! What's the task?

The puzzle appears in the Times. These are the instructions:

Place one letter in each cell so each of the given words can be spelt out by moving from cell to cell without using diagonal moves.

You can use a cell more than once in a word (including backtracking into a cell you’ve just used) but double letters (e.g. the LL in ALL) must use two adjacent cells.

The words start in the shaded cells and the vowels are shown by asterisks.

From the examples I’ve seen online, I think not.
