Interesting. I have a full grid but I’m not sure I can match everything back to the preamble. Understand the heading and the one exception to the primary source.

40a and 18d were interesting discoveries.

1a struck me as somewhat “ghost-ish”, i.e. think of a synonym then take alternative letters before adding a fish. I suppose the defence is “what else could it be?” But I’m not entirely sure this is fair.

I’m with you Xwordfan. Posh of Universal might work in place of English, but otherwise I can’t explain the last letter.

Agree about 1a, never seen a "ghost alt. letters" before. I would expect many thumbs down if this were blogged somewhere.

33d clearly seems in error (shocking!). Wordplay gives an E but the def & crosser give a U.

I see two alternatives for 32 Down (not unusual for a Doc). One is the original (English) title and the other a translation from the German. Any thoughts?
