Almost fell at the first with this.

11a - I'd confidendly put in an answer hidden in the clue that seemed to match the definition, but then saw its final letter clashed with 2d - I managed to sort it out but not until after reading the preamble another 50 times to see if there might be clashes!

I'm sure you can all deduce what my original answer was:-)

PS. The clue is:-

11a - Late arriving forage includes cereal (3)

There is an extra word.

Like I say, I've solved it so am just posting this for those without the puzzle.

I think I've gone wrong somewhere. From the letters in the down clues in 5d I need an A, but no word in that clue begins with an A.

I then thought it must be one of the clues that uses a symbol to replace some letters. The problem with that theory, though, is that the line from the poem given by the letters from extra words in the across clues is 17 letters long and there are 19 across clues - so it would seem both answers that use symbols come from the across clues (I've already got one).

Cance that, I'm officially a moron!

It's the last letter I should be looking at not the first!!
