Please can anyone explain 14a?

I have B - T - A - A - S

It looks like BETRAYALS. I can see how the parsing works:

BE (live) and the first letters of Alone Looking Seriously, surrounding (housing) TRAY (board).

But what in the clue means BETRAYALS?

Thanks Chrise. But does that actually mean BETRAYALS? You can hand over something without it necessarily being a betrayal. Or am I missing something obvious?

If you hand over an accomplice to the police, for instance.

That's a bit niche!
