That’s curious, 22a was a write in for me on the first pass with no crossers. It must be very British thing, though not something you hear now. I’d probably associate it with the 80/90s.
I wasn’t sure if it would be Azed today. He’s announced he will no longer set Competition puzzles but will continue with Plain ones for as long as he can. He’s effectively retiring in stages.
