A former forum contributor we knew as syzygy died this evening on Vancouver Island. He was a kind, smart, very funny guy who posted funky clues and treated us to puzzles from Harper’s and the Wall Street Journal. His ashes will be sent to his family in New Zealand.

RIP. I'm a relative newcomer and only knew syzygy through the Harper's and WSJ puzzles he posted. Sad news, though I was aware he'd been ill.

Aristophanes, thanks for passing on that sad news. I remember Syzygy well - and partly because I had trouble, virtually every single time, in typing his name! It was great to see his clues, great to be treated to the US puzzles. I'm sure he'll be missed - and remembered - by many, many people.

Thank you for letting us know Aristophanes.

Like many on here, I looked forward to Syzygy' regular posting of the WSJ and Harper's puzzles. giving Forum members a chance to appreciate cryptic puzzles from across the pond.

Like Malone, I too struggled with his name. To be truthful, I think I only realised it was a real word when it popped up in a YT video on astronomy.
