Can anyone help with 15 down, please. The clue is:
Cricketer and American president taking black cab with no cabbie.
8 letters.

It looks like COTOPAXI which contains the word TAXI but I cannot make any sense of the clue. Any help appreciated.

ROOT is the cricketer, around B(lack), but I don't see how AXI comes from American president

I have EXASPERATED (= irritated). If that's correct, how does the parsing work?

I think NICKERED can mean "chortled" or laughed
