I’m slightly baffled by this. We’re told that “B is the same throughout” but, while B can certainly be added to the relevant answers (twice in some cases) B is not part of the definition in any of them - and some comprise only wordplay. It is perfectly possible to fill the grid using the wordplay and crossers in the B entries without any idea of what B is. What am I missing?

I think “the same throughout” confirms that are no definitions in the B clues; and, that in all cases, the B word is an accepted suffix to the answer.

In 22d the wordplay indicates an undefined word beginning with B if I have understood the clue?

Yes, the solution to 22d begins with "B". But the solution with *the* B word appended is a valid construction (and less obscure than many in the grid), per jono's post.

Just think, after this the Prize will probably seem easy. (Or I just jinxed it and it will be Paul.😉)

This one took a lot of time. However, once I clicked into the 'B' device - which should have been obvious from the outset - the puzzle did come together. 24a caused me some problems, as there is a very similar (and arguably more common) term that might also fall within the definition. Fine with tackling an Enigmatist on a public holiday rather than a work day, and don't quite share the level of grief I'm seeing online - perhaps added to by UK solvers watching the cricket?

darla, the Prize (Brummie) is on the easy side but not completely straightforward. I started the past couple of Prize threads and hope someone else will kick this one off.
